Oklahoma to host annual Horticulture Industries Show
STILLWATER, Okla. - “Celebrating Horticulture – Four Seasons of Success” is the theme for the 27th Annual Oklahoma and Arkansas Horticulture Industries Show.
This two-day grower meeting and trade show is sponsored by the University of Arkansas, Oklahoma State University, Tulsa Community College, the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation and the Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture. It has consistently provided growers and the public with the latest information on vegetables, fruit, herbs, Christmas trees, farmers market crops and public gardening issues. The public and growers from Oklahoma, Arkansas and surrounding states are welcome to attend.
The meeting will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 4 and 5, 2008, at Tulsa Community College—Northeast Campus, 3727 E. Apache, Tulsa. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Registration fee is $50 if received by Dec. 14. Registration postmarked after Dec. 14 is $60.
Eliot Coleman will the featured speaker and has nearly 40 years of experience in all aspects of organic farming, including field and greenhouse vegetables, rotational grazing of cattle and sheep and free range poultry. He is the author of The New Organic Grower, Four Season Harvest and the Winter Harvest Manual. In Harborside, Maine, Eliot operates a commercial year-round market garden at Four Season Farm.
Both Jan. 4 and 5 will feature Coleman, followed by the six different grower organizations of H.I.S. providing concurrent educational programming on the following topic areas: Christmas Trees, Vegetables, Fruit, Herbs, Farmers Market Growing/Sustainable Agriculture and Public Gardens/Master Gardeners. Lunches on both days will feature locally produced, seasonal foods. Attendees are encouraged to register early as lunchtime seating is limited.
A CD-Rom containing all programs presented during the event will be mailed to all two-day event participants.
